Uzbekistan receives $17 million from IDB to equip coronavirus clinics

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has allocated $17 million to finance the urgent procurement of medical equipment and products for new coronavirus clinics being established across Uzbekistan. This was announced during a videoconference between Uzbek Minister for investments and foreign trade and IDB President on Wednesday. The funds are allocated from the current portfolio of loans of the IDB in the Republic.

The IDB is also ready to provide additional support to Uzbekistan. The Bank will redirect $46 million savings on infrastructure projects to equip new clinics for patients infected with the coronavirus.

President of the IDB B. Hajar assured that the Bank is ready to expand assistance in this direction, including using the capabilities of its subsidiary institutions, such as the International Islamic Trade and Finance Corporation, the Islamic Corporation for Private Sector Development and others.

As a result of the conference, the parties agreed to work out additional financing from the IDB for the needs of the health care system and small and medium-sized businesses in Uzbekistan for a total amount exceeding $140 million.
