Uzbekistan Advances Environmental Protection with New Legislation

At the recent Legislative Chamber meeting of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law titled "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was discussed in the second reading. The purpose of this bill is to enhance environmental conditions in the country.

The Speaker, H. Gaffarov, emphasized the ongoing efforts in Uzbekistan to protect the environment, ensure ecological safety, and manage natural resources wisely. However, due to increased construction, production, and urbanization, there has been a notable rise in pollutant emissions into the environment. To address this issue, the Speaker proposed revising the criteria for restricting and suspending the activities of entities that negatively impact nature to prevent exceeding pollution standards.

The proposed amendments in the draft law target legal documents and aim to limit or suspend the activities of entities causing environmental harm beyond acceptable levels for a maximum of ten working days. The Speaker stressed that this legislation is crucial for preventing environmental pollution, protecting public health, and enhancing the responsibility of relevant state bodies.

The discussions during the meeting focused on the proposed norms in the draft law, with various opinions and suggestions being expressed. The significance of the draft law was acknowledged, and it was ultimately accepted by the deputies. The adoption of this legislation is expected to contribute to the overall improvement of the ecological situation in the country.
