President participates in informal Summit of Organization of Turkic States
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Budapest. The summit aimed to discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation among member countries.
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Türkiye Tayyip Erdoğan, and Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev. Participants exchanged views on strengthening multifaceted collaboration within the Organization and addressed pressing issues of practical interaction.
In his speech, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave a detailed assessment of the current global situation, marked by rising geopolitical tensions, regional conflicts, and the negative effects of climate change. He emphasized the importance of forming unified positions among OTS members in tackling key global challenges—based on international law and the UN Charter.
Focusing on practical cooperation, the President highlighted the vast untapped potential within the OTS and presented several new initiatives. He stressed the urgency of signing the Treaty on Strategic Partnership, Eternal Friendship and Brotherhood of Turkic States, initiated by Uzbekistan, to strengthen long-term legal and political frameworks.
In the economic sphere, President of Uzbekistan proposed the creation of an online platform called “TURK-TRADE” and the adoption of a Practical Program to boost mutual trade. To increase cargo flow along the Trans-Caspian International Corridor and streamline customs and border procedures, he urged the rapid implementation of “single window” and “green corridor” systems. He also announced the upcoming Turkic States International Forum on Multimodal Transport and Logistics in Tashkent this November.
The President welcomed the establishment of the Turkic Investment Fund and proposed creating a Joint Venture Company for innovative projects and a unified portal to present investment opportunities across member states.
To enhance industrial cooperation, he suggested developing a dedicated program to create large-scale production facilities in various sectors, including chemical, energy, mining, textile, pharmaceuticals, leather and footwear, food, and construction industries.
On climate, the head of the state commended the outcomes of the recent International Climate Forum in Samarkand, which advanced key initiatives for global and regional green development. He supported Hungary’s initiative to establish a Drought Prevention Institute in Budapest and proposed drafting a joint roadmap to combat drought and environmental challenges.
The President also emphasized cooperation in science, culture, and education. He noted that the opening of the International Turkic States University in Tashkent would significantly contribute to educational exchange and youth development. He further proposed enhancing the work of TURKSOY, and holding the next Turkic Culture Foundation Council meeting in Uzbekistan.
In conclusion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Nobel laureate and prominent Turkish biochemist Aziz Sancar on receiving the Alisher Navoi International Prize.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the Budapest Declaration and a number of documents on priority cooperation areas.
