Front-line labor veterans receive medals
In Uzbekistan, war and labor veterans who contributed to the victory in World War II, as well as those who fought for the development and defense of the Motherland, are given special attention and deep respect. Recently, 18 front-line labor veterans living in Yakkasaray district were honored with the “80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II” medals in a solemn ceremony.
Led by the district governer, local council deputies from UzLiDEP and neighborhood elders visited homes to check on the condition of World War II and labor veterans. In addition to medals, the veterans were also given a one-time cash award on behalf of the President.
Currently, 18 front-line labor veterans live in Yakkasaroy district. Seven of them reside in the Kushbegi neighborhood. Additionally, there are two people in the district who are recognized as World War II participants. Six of the front-line labor veterans are over 100 years old.
Around 2 million Uzbeks were mobilized during World War II. More than 538,000 of them died in battle, and over 158,000 went missing.
Hakima Ahmedjonova, worked behind the front lines during the war. She recalled the hardships of those years and stressed the importance of valuing today’s peaceful and calm life. She also expressed her happiness about the constant care and support she receives.
