Uzbekistan introduces new electricity tariff from May 1
A new intermediate electricity tariff will come into effect across Uzbekistan starting May 1, offering relief to household consumers whose monthly usage exceeds the basic social norm. The Ministry of Energy announced the update.
According to the document, a new tariff of 800 sums per kilowatt-hour will apply to electricity consumption ranging from 201 to 500 kWh per month. This change introduces a middle tier between the previous preferential and standard rates and is aimed at easing the financial burden on average households. This marks the second phase in the government’s electricity pricing reform. In May 2024, Uzbekistan introduced a differentiated tariff system for the first time, with a basic preferential rate for consumption up to 200 kWh/month. Originally scheduled for April 1, the new price adjustments were postponed by presidential order to May 1, 2025. Updated Electricity Tariffs for Residential Consumers are as follows:
In addition to that, the Ministry reported that the lectricity and natural gas prices will now be annually indexed starting every May 1, based on the inflation rate — but not exceeding 10% per year. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that the new structure is designed to protect low- and mid-level consumers while encouraging efficient energy use.
