Aziz Sancar awarded Alisher Navoi international prize

As part of the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Budapest, the Alisher Navoi International Prize “For Contribution to the Unity of the Turkic World” was presented. This year, it was awarded to Nobel Prize-winning Turkish biochemist Aziz Sancar.

The award ceremony took place within the framework of the summit program and honored Aziz Sancar—an esteemed scientist, Nobel laureate, and honorary doctor of the National University of Uzbekistan—for his outstanding contributions.

On this occasion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated Professor Sancar and emphasized that awarding such a prestigious recognition to a member of the scientific community would inspire researchers and youth across the Turkic world to strive for new achievements.

The Alisher Navoi International Prize was established in 2021 at the initiative of President of Uzbekistan. It is named after the great Uzbek scientist and statesman Alisher Navoi and is awarded biennially by the Organization of Turkic States.

The prize honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to promoting Turkic culture, preserving peace, ensuring security, fostering trust, and enhancing cooperation among Turkic peoples across various fields.

The inaugural award was presented in 2022 to Kyrgyz writer and public figure Chingiz Aitmatov.
