27th March – International Theater Day

Every year on March 27, International Theater Day is widely celebrated worldwide with the slogan “Theatre is a means of strengthening unity and peace among peoples”. This concept was initially proposed at the IX Congress of the International Theater Institute in 1961, and it was supported by over 100 countries globally. The history of theater dates back to ancient times, over 2500 years before the first formal performance. It originated in Egypt but gained popularity in ancient Greece and Rome. In Western Europe, theater became ingrained in society through comedies by Moler and tragedies by Shakespeare.

In Uzbekistan, the earliest forms of theater emerged from ancient tent-fantasy shows performed by artists known as "kizik" or "mashara" at weddings and royal palaces. By the late 19th to early 20th centuries, theater in Uzbekistan became a means for conveying ideas effectively. Scholars like Behbudi, Avloni, Fitrat, and Munavvarkori significantly contributed to its development, with Behbudi's drama "Padarkush" marking a notable event.

Today, Uzbekistan has over 40 professional state theaters with thousands of specialists working in them. International Theater Day is not only a professional holiday for stage masters and theater workers but also a celebration for millions of viewers.
