Uzbekistan to raise $2.5bn to develop digital infrastructure

Uzbekistan plans to raise $2.5bn to develop the digital infrastructure. This was announced by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov at The International Digital Almaty Forum held on Friday.

“Modernizing mobile communications, setting up effective e-government are the priorities” he said.

According to Aripov, these funds would help to launch three new data centers - in Tashkent, Bukhara and Kokand. The government plans to cover all schools and districts with quality internet connection.

Aripov noted that the expansion of digitalization in the fields of healthcare and agriculture, as well as transformation in the banking sector are among the main tasks. He stressed that the demand for digital services has significantly increased in the country, and the number of users of electronic payment systems has already exceeded 14mn people.
