The Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Oleg Malginov, has announced that the Russian Consulate General will operate in Samarkand. Ambassador Malginov emphasized the growing importance of Samarkand as a hub for political, cultural, and tourist activities.
The ambassador noted that the city has recently hosted numerous significant events, including those organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Additionally, he highlighted the remarkable increase in tourist visits from Russia to Uzbekistan in 2023, almost doubling the previous year's figures. He described the agreement to open the Consulate General as an important step toward expanding cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan.
