Uzbek president instructs authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply
Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on improving energy supply and was acquainted with plans in the field of hydropower.
In recent years, 27 projects worth $ 500 million have been implemented in the field of hydropower, resulting in the creation of additional 260 megawatts. The total capacity of stations of the "Uzbekhydroenergo" system has exceeded 2 thousand megawatts. It means 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas is saved annually. This year it is planned to launch seven projects with a capacity of 197 megawatts and 10 micro hydroelectric power stations. Another 8 promising projects with a capacity of 438 megawatts and 50 micro-hydro power plants will be launched.
The Head of State stressed the high potential of the hydropower industry and gave instructions to drastically increase the capacity. In this regard, 250 sites have been identified where hydropower plants can be built. It is estimated that in the future these sites could produce 675 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, saving 200 million cubic meters of gas.
The President also touched upon the issue of localization of the industry. The Joint-Stock Company Suvsanoatmash has been given the assignment to produce equipment for micro hydropower plants and hydraulic units in the Tashkent region.
The measures to ensure steady supplies of energy to the population were also discussed at the meeting. The President underscored the need to use all existing reserves and implement new and promising projects in time. In the conditions of an energy shortage, tasks have been set to increase daily output, equitable and effective distribution of resources, consistent delivery to places, and prompt elimination of outages.
