Grandmasters Abdusattorov and Vakhidov enter TOP-5 ranking of 44th World Chess Olympiad

According to the results of the World Chess Olympiad, held in India, only 5 grandmasters reached the rating of 2800+. Two of them are representatives of Uzbekistan.
At the 44th World Chess Olympiad, held in the Indian city of Chennai, only five chess players out of 188 teams in the world scored 2800 points. This was reported by the FIDE (International Chess Federation) Twitter page.

It is gratifying to note that two of these five chess players are representatives of Uzbekistan. Nodirbek Abdusattorov with 2803 rating points and Jahangir Vakhidov with 2813 points were among the best players in the competition.The list also includes well-known grandmasters - David Howell from England (2898), Gukesh Dommarayu from India (2867) and Magnus Carlsen from Norway (2803).

Jahongir Vakhidov won the gold medal with the best result on the fourth board, while Nodirbek Abdusattarov lost only to Gukesh on the first board and won silver.Nodirbek played 11 games at the Olympics and scored 8.5 points. Vakhidov took part in 8 rounds and scored 6.5 points. A total of 1737 chess players took part in the competition.

It should be noted that the above rating points differ from the FIDE world ranking, which is led by Carlsen with 2864 points, followed by Abdusattorov with 2688, Gukesh with 2684, Howell with 2650, and Vakhidov with 2564.For your information, the next World Olympiad will be held in 2024 in Budapest (Hungary), and in 2026 Uzbekistan received the right to host the Tournament of Nations.
