International collaboration in forensic expertise research

The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the regional UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia, organized an international scientific conference focused on enhancing forensic expertise. This conference was divided into panel sessions and served as a platform for discussing the current state and challenges within forensic expertise, examining and adopting best practices from foreign forensic institutions.

Over 400 experts, specialists, and employees from judicial investigation bodies in 8 countries gathered for a conference held online and offline. During the event, the Minister of Justice addressed concerns about genetic privacy related to DNA databases and stressed the importance of increased cooperation among experts in the field. At the event, participants discussed the development of new methodologies, updates to existing ones, and the adoption of modern technologies. Local and international experts shared their opinions and suggestions on advancing the field of forensic expertise.

Halimah binti Abdul RAHIM - Department Head of Chemistry at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in Malaysia

- I have been conducting forensic research in Malaysia focusing on chemical analysis, particularly in narcotics, toxicology, and the chemical analysis of crime scene evidence. Unlike Uzbekistan, in Malaysia, forensic practices are carried out by multiple organizations and agencies, not just one. Today, I will be speaking at an international event where I plan to share insights from my research on DNA analysis in forensic science, toxicology, and Malaysia's experiences in crime scene investigation.

An exhibition was organized to introduce conference participants to forensic examination capabilities in Uzbekistan and the work done in this field. The exhibition showcased items used for crime detection, forensics, and analysis. [Participants also planted different trees as part of the national "Green Space" project during the event. Finally, it was decided to arrange international internships for forensic experts from the Republican Forensic Center to collaborate on research with foreign experts.
