The number of measles cases is increasing in Uzbekistan, with 164 cases detected, mostly among citizens who had contact with people arriving from abroad. By the end of April, 37 cases were reported.
The situation is under control, and preventive vaccination is being provided to those who were in contact with suspected patients, based on recommendations. Measles prevalence in Uzbekistan is lower than in neighboring countries, like Afghanistan (2105 cases), Tajikistan (over 300 cases), and Kazakhstan (169 cases). The global and European region's measles situation worsened in 2023 due to disruptions in routine vaccination, as warned by WHO in 2021.
