Tashkent hosts “Car-free day” on March 29
Tashkent will host a "Car-Free Day" on Friday, March 29. It was announced by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan. According to a presidential decree from February, government officials must use public transportation for their commute on this day.
The purpose of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle, raise awareness about environmental protection, reduce city traffic, and enhance public transport. The Ministry urges everyone to participate and choose eco-friendly modes of transportation such as public transport or bicycles.
The monthly "Car-Free Day" project in Tashkent was approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on February 21, following proposals from the public and environmental activists. On this day, managers and employees of all government offices in Tashkent are required to use public transportation as a personal example.
