UNICEF organizes festive event for children with disabilities
June 1 is celebrated around the world as International Children's Day. The main purpose of this holiday is to draw public attention to real children's problems. UNICEF, for its part, organized a festive event in Tashkent in order to draw attention to the problems of children with disabilities in the country.
An exhibition of handicrafts for children with disabilities was presented at the celebration. Various clubs were also organized for children - on robotics, road safety, master classes in soap making, art therapy, body art and much more.
The event was also attended by the head of the UNICEF office in Uzbekistan, Munir Mammadzade, who himself took part in several circles.
“This year marks the 30th anniversary of Uzbekistan's accession to the Convention on the children's rights. It has a separate article on children. In addition, the country has ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. New laws were adopted, new additions and changes were made to existing ones, and the concept of "inclusive education" was introduced. And at the moment there is a discussion on how we can create this barrier-free and inclusive environment so that every child has access to both health care services and pre-school and school education. Also, issues of social protection are always on the agenda,” said Munir Mammadzade, head of the UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan.
