The election of academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) ended in Moscow the day before. It is noteworthy that for the first time in many years, citizens of other states, including Uzbekistan, participated in the elections.

By the way, the largest foreign scientists who have received recognition from the world scientific community are elected by the foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Foreign members of the RAS are elected by the General Meeting of the RAS.

Thus, foreign members of the RAS from Uzbekistan were elected:

- in the Department of Physics and Astronomy - Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Mukhsinjon Ashurov;

- in the Department of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies - President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Behzod Yuldashev;

- in the "Department of Agricultural Sciences" - Professor of the National University of Uzbekistan Lazizakhon Gafurova.

Ashurov Mukhsinjon Khurramovich, born November 19, 1949 - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Academician, Chief Researcher of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

He is a recognized expert in solid state physics, laser crystal spectroscopy, radiation physics, inorganic materials, crystal growth, and alternative energy sources. He is the co-author of 194 scientific papers, the author of two monographs and the co-author of 16 patents.

The main scientific results of Academician Ashurov are the establishment of a violation of the stoichiometry of the homologous series of crystals with a garnet structure, the discovery of the effect of the mutual influence of rare earth ions in crystals with a garnet structure; pioneering spectroscopic studies of color centers and radiation resistance of refractory oxide crystals; solving the problem of increasing the radiation resistance of the most important types of laser crystals, on the basis of which active and passive elements of solid-state lasers are created that do not lose their generation and modulation properties at radiation doses up to 109 Roentgen; development and implementation of technology for the production on an industrial scale of technical silicon from quartzites mined in Uzbekistan.

Mukhsinjon Ashurov throughout his scientific career maintains close ties with the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, conducting joint research in the field of physical sciences. Recently, his interests have included research into the possibilities of using physical methods in agriculture. Together with Russian colleagues, he develops the scientific basis for the use of low-temperature plasma to stimulate the development of agricultural plants, suppress the vital activity of pathogenic microorganisms, pathogens and insect pests; develops technologies for obtaining aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide and optimal modes of pre-sowing treatment of agricultural plants with them in order to increase their productivity.

The scientist is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals, chairman and member of a number of dissertation councils, was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National University of the Republic of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, is the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Samarkand State University, a member of the International Society of Optical Engineering "SPIE" (USA), has honorary titles and state awards of Uzbekistan, was repeatedly elected a deputy of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is the Chairman of the Friendship Society "Uzbekistan - Greece".

Yuldashev Bekhzod Sadykovich, born May 9, 1945 - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Academician, President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan since January 10, 2017.

He is an outstanding scientist in the field of creating, using nuclear technologies, new materials with desired properties, widely used in microelectronics, quantum electronics. He worked as director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Science Adviser at the IAEA (Austria), visiting professor at Washington University, Stanford University in the USA and at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Russia).

He was the scientific supervisor of two experiments performed by international teams of scientists at the National Accelerator Laboratory Fermilab (USA) and Triumf (Vancouver, Canada). Participates in experiments at the Large Hadron Collider ("Large Hadron Collider") at the European Center for Nuclear Research ("CERN" - Geneva, Switzerland). Academician Yuldashev was the first to experimentally prove the existence of a single mechanism of quark hadronization in the interactions of neutrinos (leptons) and high-energy hadrons with nuclei. He is the author and co-author of more than 400 scientific papers, including 3 monographs.

Behzod Yuldashev - Member of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) under the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Member of the American Physical Society, Honorary Professor of the Universities of Indiana and Washington (USA), as well as Cambridge (UK), Academician of the Academy of the Islamic World (“IAS”), Honorary Doctor of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Russia), foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of Uzbekistan and the international ECO Prize. He was awarded the orders "Mekhnat Shukhrati" and "Fidokorona Khizmatlari Uchun".

In recent years, at the initiative of Academician Yuldashev, joint research has been actively carried out and new projects are being planned with scientific institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the state corporation Rosatom.

Gafurova Lazizahon Akramovna, born on July 20, 1956 - Professor of the Department of Soil Science at the National University of Uzbekistan.

Lazizakhon Gafurova founded a scientific school on the genesis and evolution of arid soils, biology, ecology and soil erosion. Her students were awarded Presidential scholarships, diplomas for the best scientific work of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the UNESCO-Loreal Prize, and became laureates of prestigious competitions. In particular, for the best innovative and scientific works.

Gafurova is the author of more than 400 scientific papers, including 20 monographs, 15 scientific and methodological developments, 3 atlases, 9 certificates from the Intellectual Property Agency, including 2 certificates of the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of Russia. She published 10 textbooks, including 4 jointly with scientists from the Timiryazev Moscow State Agrarian University and 1 textbook with scientists from Lomonosov Moscow State University, which is recognized in Russia as a “Classic University Textbook”.

Under the leadership of Lazizakhon Gafurova, 4 doctoral and 19 master's theses were defended. She works on the editorial board of the journals "Chemical protection and plant quarantine", "Vladimir farmer", "Bulletin of the Nizhny Novgorod State Agricultural Academy" (Russia), "Eco-Systems and Bioms" (China). He is the chairman of the expert council on biological sciences of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, and a member of the international and Russian societies of soil scientists.
