Uzbek surgeons perform operation of bone arthroplasty

For the first time in Uzbekistan, a complex operation of bone arthroplasty was performed. The disease was transferred to a 14-year-old teenager from Kokand

For the first time in Uzbekistan, a 14-year-old teenager with a malignant bone tumour underwent the most complicated endoprosthesis procedure.

It is no secret that oncological diseases worldwide are increasing hourly. According to statistics, by 2030 the number of patients with dangerous oncological diseases in the world may reach 23.6 million people.

Unfortunately, the rates of cancer in our country are also not small. According to the Ministry of Health, out of 900 patients with malignant bone tumours, the proportion of children is 7%.

In particular, this disease was transferred to a 14-year-old teenager living in Kokand, Fergana region. For help, the boy's parents turned to the Republican Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Specialized Oncology and Medical Radiology.

The staff of the Center, in cooperation with Russian and local doctors, performed the procedure of incremental arthroplasty for the patient. This operation was carried out in our country for the first time.

“This operation is a knee arthroplasty procedure for a widespread malignant tumour disease of the lower third of the left thigh. Similar operations were performed in a number of medical institutions in our country before, but this procedure of surgical intervention is different in that the endoprosthesis installed in the patient tends to stretch. That is, its advantage is the possibility of lengthening the device after the operation,” said Tajiddin Mustafoev, head of the department of the Scientific and Practical Medical Center.

According to the specialist, this prosthesis is made individually, based on the characteristics of the patient's body. In addition, as the adolescent organism develops, the apparatus grows in harmony with it.

As a result, even when the child grows up, he will not develop defects such as shortening of the arms or legs.
