Uzbekistan to face severe water scarcity

By 2030, Uzbekistan could have a shortage of 7 billion cubic meters of water. This will make the country one of the 33 water-scarce regions. It was announced by Tohir Haydarov, the first deputy chairman of Uzsuvtaminot.
At the recent plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, the deputy chairman of Uzsuvtaminot, announced that Uzbekistan may face severe water shortage problems and that this issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible. During the session, he said the following:
"Water shortages are becoming a major topic of discussion for Uzbekistan. Lack of precipitation and abnormal heat lead to the depletion of water reserves," says Tohir Haydarov.
A plan to promote the rational use of water was discussed. It includes the following measures:
- Strengthening the legislative base of the water sector.
- Forming a working group to address the issue.
- Expanding the use of water-saving technologies.
