Uzbekistan to introduce nationwide eco-sticker system for vehicles

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan approved measures to reduce the negative impact of automotive transport on the air quality. The resolution, establishes a legal framework for issuing ecological stickers to vehicles based on their emissions of pollutants. The first center for issuing these stickers started operating in Tashkent in early March of this year.

The "Eco Transport" system, responsible for issuing the stickers, is expected to be fully operational from June . Vehicle diagnostics and sticker issuance will be provided free of charge.

The territories of each region will be categorized into "green," "yellow," and "red" ecological zones. The implementation of the system will begin IN Tashkent from 2024 to 2026. In the second phase, from 2026 to 2028, it will extend to regional centers, tourist areas, nature reserves, recreational areas, and other designated zones. By the end of 2030, the system will cover the entire country.

Access to "clean" zones will be restricted or closed for vehicles that fall into more polluting categories. Compensation payments for road usage in these "clean" zones will be considered. Newly registered and re-registered vehicles will receive the stickers for free. Owners of electric vehicles and cars less than three years old can obtain stickers without diagnostics by requesting them online.
