April 6- International day of sport for development and peace

Today, April 6th is celebrated as an International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This date highlights the positive impact of sport and physical activity in communities worldwide. The theme for 2024 is “Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies”.

The United Nations recognizes the power of sport to unite individuals and groups, supporting sport for development efforts globally, from major events to grassroots activities, and developing its own sports-related campaigns and initiatives. Sport, with its broad appeal and positive values, is well-suited to contribute to the UN's goals for development and peace.

To highlight this potential, April 6th was designated as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by the UN General Assembly. This recognition reflects the UN's growing acknowledgment of sport's positive influence on human rights and social and economic development.

Uzbekistan is also taking important actions to develop sport in the country. A Presidential Resolution was adopted to reorganize state sports and educational institutions with a new system. According to the decree, Uzbekistan championships and cups were started to hold annually based on established age categories, following international sports standards. Additional annual funding was allocated for sport development initiatives. This includes 10 billion soums for medical centers in sports schools. 2 billion soums for educational literature. 23 billion soums for sports uniforms of schools participating in competitions.
