Uzbekistan solemnly welcomes Para athletes from Paris
A welcoming ceremony was held for Para athletes who participated in the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, which took place from August 28 to September 8. Over 4,000 athletes from more than 180 delegations competed in 22 sports. For the first time, 65 Para athletes represented Uzbek delegation.
Uzbek athletes achieved the best results in Uzbekistan's history at the Summer Paralympic Games, winning 10 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze medals—a total of 26 medals. This success placed Uzbekistan 13th in the World Paralympic rankings, 3rd in Asia, and 1st among CIS countries, the Central Asian region, the Islamic Unity, and the Organization of Turkic States. The champions were solemnly welcomed at Tashkent airport.
At the start of the event, Nuriddin Ismailov, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, gave a speech congratulating the Para athletes on their historic achievement.
Husniddin Norbekov, flag bearer, won the gold medal at this year's Olympics, becoming a three-time Olympic champion. During the ceremony, he handed the flag to Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.
After the welcoming ceremony, the Uzbek heroes toured the city and received applause from the fans.
The Uzbek delegation made history at the Paralympic Games and is now preparing for the Summer Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. On behalf of the UzReport TV team, we congratulate Uzbek para-athletes on their historic victory and wish them success in defending the country's honor at the next Paralympics.
