Uzbekistan Wins More Medals at Asian Games

Uzbekistan secured an additional six medals at the Asian Games in China, bringing their total medal count to 43. These medals were earned through strong performances in track and field, canoeing, and wrestling. However, despite their achievements, the national team slipped from fifth to sixth place in the overall standings.

As of October 2, Uzbekistan occupies the sixth position among approximately 45 participating countries, boasting 11 gold, 14 silver, and 18 bronze medals. China maintains its lead with 257 medals (142 gold, 76 silver, 39 bronze), followed by Japan (117: 30-43-44), South Korea (131: 30-39-62), and India (56: 13-21-22).

In comparison to the previous day, Uzbekistan clinched one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, but their ranking dropped by one position. Chinese Taipei (38: 12-10-16) moved up to fifth place.

On October 1, track and field athlete Ekaterina Voronina secured her second medal of the Asian Games, claiming a silver medal in the all-around program (which includes 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m run, long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run) with a score of 6056 points. She had previously won a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games.

Uzbekistan's rowing and canoeing team reached the finals in all the events they participated in.

In the men's 1000-meter canoeing final, Shakhriyor Mahkamov finished second with a time of 3:49.978 minutes, earning a silver medal, even though he had held the lead halfway through the race. Zhang Dong of China (3:46.224) claimed first place, with Rodion Tuigunov of Kyrgyzstan (3:51.399) securing third.

In the men's 1000m canoe program, Vladlen Denisov won a silver medal in 4:15.994, trailing Kuan-Che Lai of Chinese Taipei by a mere 0.052 seconds (4:15.942), despite leading for most of the distance. Timofei Emelyanov of Kazakhstan (4:18.810) took third place.

In the women's 500m canoe race, the duo of Ekaterina Shubina and Arina Tanatmysheva finished third (1:52.832), securing a bronze medal. The gold medal went to the Chinese team (1:49.944), and the silver to Kazakhstan (1:51.251).

Uzbekistan's women's water polo team completed all their matches and concluded the Asian Games in sixth place, while the Chinese team secured the gold medal and a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Uzbekistan's men's field hockey team achieved their first victory at the Asian Games, defeating Singapore 2-1 in a Group A match on October 2.

In the team chess program, the women's team triumphed over South Korea with a score of 4-0, whereas the men's team lost to Iran 1.5-2.5. In the upcoming round, the men will face the Chinese team, and the women will compete against Hong Kong.
