Japanese multinational electronics corporation Panasonic showed off the 'Ku' fridge to surprised visitors.
The fridge-on-wheels has an in-built LIDAR and depth sensor and can respond to voice commands such as "Fridge, come here", "Come to the living room", and "Go to the kitchen table."
It can learn your kitchen's layout and is linked to a database that provides details about the bottles in your fridge.
It navigates its way autonomously and can respond to unexpected items in its path.
Tobias Wobbe, from Panasonic's Better living, told Reuters: "All I have to do is say 'Hi Ku, please come to the dining table'. When I do that Ku will move to the dining table. It has an embedded sensor technology. It maps out the room, continuously updates the map, recognises itself within the map so it can move around safely without bumping into anything."
The company says it could be useful for the elderly and infirm, saving them from difficult trips to the kitchen.
Wobbe said it could also benefit the lazy.
"Just imagine you're watching the World Cup and it's not already half time but your bottle is empty. You just tell Ku to bring another beer," he said.
Among the other futuristic household appliances at IFA was Chinese firm Ecovacs Robotics' array of robotic vacuum and cleaning robots.
IFA runs until September 6.
