Abdulla Qodiriy – founder of Uzbek novel writing

A cultural event dedicated to the memory of Abdulla Kadiriy, the founder of Uzbek novel writing, was hosted at the Customs Institute. The event aimed to honor his literary legacy and raise awareness among youth about the Jadid movement. Although his works were once banned, today they serve as a source of spiritual enrichment and intellectual growth for readers. 

The event, commemorated Abdulla Kadiriy’s birth anniversary. A major figure in the socio-cultural transformation of the early 20th century, Kadiriy made significant contributions to journalism and literature following the 1917 October Revolution. Between 1919 and 1925, he authored more than 300 articles and publicistic works. His novel “O‘tkan kunlar” is recognized as the first Uzbek-language novel, laying the foundation for the Uzbek novel genre.

Kadiriy’s descendants were also present at the event, sharing personal reflections and paying tribute to the writer.

The event at the Customs Institute created an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the Jadid movement and its role in shaping the nation’s intellectual history.

Throughout his literary career, Abdulla Kadiriy authored two major novels, numerous short stories, and over 300 articles and publicistic works. His writings have been translated into Russian, Kazakh, Uighur, German, Tatar, Arabic, Italian, and English.
