Tashkent opens monument to Belarusian writer Yakub Kolas

A monument and a street named after the classic of Belarusian literature, academician Konstantin Mickiewicz, known as Yakub Kolas opened in the center of Tashkent.

A famous sculptor, academician of the Academy of arts of Uzbekistan Marina Borodina is the author of the monument.

The opening ceremony saw Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Nodir Otajonov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusy and other officials.

Yakub Kolas was a Belarusian Soviet writer, poet and translator, public figure. He was one of the founders of the new Belarusian literature. His works are translated into more than 40 languages of the world.
