How much does electric car cost in Uzbekistan?

Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular in Uzbekistan, and many are curious about the cost of customs for such vehicles. Autostrada reveals that the state has been encouraging the importation of electric cars since 2019 by canceling customs and excise duties and reducing fees for registration. So how much does it cost to buy an electric car?

To clear an electric car through customs, a citizen needs to provide documentation for the car, a sales contract, and a certificate of origin. Electric cars are subject to excise tax, which means that a 12% VAT on the value of the car, along with a utilisation fee and a customs clearance fee, will need to be paid.

A certificate of conformity from UzStandart is also required, which costs 4.3 million soums. The services of a customs declarant are also mandatory. For example, if an electric car is imported from China for $28,000, the total cost at the customs border would be $32,000.

The customs clearance process would be based on this amount, and additional fees for customs clearance, utilization, and the services of a declarant would need to be paid. All customs fees are paid in sums at the Central Bank's exchange rate on the day of execution of documents. After paying all the fees and transport costs, a car worth $28,000 in China would end up costing $37.3 thousand in Uzbekistan.

The cost of clearing customs for an electric car in Uzbekistan appears to be quite high, with transport, customs clearance, and registration costs adding up to more than 30% of the car's value.
