Uzbekistan intends to increase volume of exports of fruits and vegetables to $5 bn per year

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting devoted to the priority tasks of development of livestock and horticultural industries.

The State Committee of Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Development, the Agency "Chorvanasl", the Agency for the Development of Horticulture and Greenhouses, for the development of viticulture have been organized over the past two years, for the development of domestic agriculture.

The meeting discussed the work done in the livestock industry and plans for the future. Some 1 trillion 603 billion soums were allocated in 2019, for the development of animal husbandry within the framework of the program “Every family - entrepreneur”, 332 billion soums of concessional loans were allocated for poultry farming. As a result, the number of small cattle increased by 550 thousand heads, poultry - by 6 million 130 thousand. 

In the meantime, there are shortcomings in the ongoing work to provide the population with affordable meat and dairy products. The issues of establishing an uninterrupted supply of food were considered.

The responsible persons were instructed to speed up the work on the organization of 270 livestock complexes and 260 dairy enterprises in 2019-2021, designed for the maintenance of 300-500 heads of cattle each.

The meeting also discussed issues of horticulture. It was noted that for 9 months of this year, the export of fruits and vegetables reached almost $ 1 billion. There are untapped opportunities to further increase this indicator due to the effective use of vacant land and the cultivation of popular varieties.

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of agriculture were instructed to develop proposals for the implementation of the new system and the financing of cooperatives.

The ultimate goal of implementing the objectives set at the meeting is to bring the volume of exports of fruits and vegetables to $ 5 billion per year.
