Uzbekistan to implement “polluter pays” principle
According to the decree, the “polluter pays” principle will be introduced for the first time, providing compensation for the costs of waste management by the waste producers.
A presidential resolution approved the Strategy of Municipal Solid Waste Management for the period 2019-2028.
The strategy provides for the implementation of following main tasks:
- development of sanitation infrastructure, aimed at ensuring full coverage of the population with services for the collection and removal of solid household waste;
- creation of an effective and modern system for processing solid household waste;
- reducing the volume of municipal solid waste;
- tariff optimization in the field of sanitation;
- using facilities of solid waste in the form of alternative energy sources.
