Uzbekistan's Hydro Power Stations Reach 58
The total number of hydroelectric power stations in Uzbekistan has reached 58. "Uzbekhydroenergo" JSC carried out systematic work, implementing 36 projects, including the construction of 22 new hydroelectric power plants and the modernization of 13 existing ones.
In the past six years, the country's hydroelectric power plants increased from 37 to 58, with installed capacity rising from 1,856 MW to 2,233 MW. An additional capacity of about 400 MW was added. This growth is significant not only in Uzbekistan but also in the CIS countries.
Currently, 13 investment projects with a total capacity of 749 MW are under construction. Large-scale reforms in 2023 led to the launch of 8 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 190 MW in Tashkent, Andijan, Samarkand, and Surkhandarya regions, contributing to the country's industrial development.
The opening ceremony of "Isfara micro hydroelectric power station-1" in Surkhandarya region marked a milestone. It became Uzbekistan's first "national" hydroelectric power plant, with all works, including project and equipment preparation, done by local manufacturers, particularly "Suvsanoatmash" JSC.
Despite frequent low water seasons, the additional capacities from JSC "Uzbekhydroenergo" construction works have not only maintained but increased the hydropower potential yearly.
In 2023, energy-generating enterprises under the Republic of Uzbekistan are planning to supply about 7.0 billion kWh of electricity to the national power grids, an 8% increase from last year.
