Cooperation Council Uzbekistan – EU holds its regular meeting

On November 11, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov took part in the 15th meeting of the Cooperation COUNCIL "Uzbekistan-EU".

The delegation of the European Union was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the EU presidency of Finland Pekka Haavisto.

The sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, discussed the state and prospects of cooperation in the political, economic, investment spheres, in the field of human rights, education, and security.

The head of the Uzbek delegation also welcomed the adoption by the European Commission of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia and stressed the importance of the key priorities outlined in the document, such as increasing the stability of the countries of the region, ensuring their prosperity and strengthening institutional mechanisms of interaction with the EU.

Special attention was paid to the preparation for the fourth round of negotiations on the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) between Uzbekistan and the EU, scheduled for December. Satisfaction was expressed with the constructive nature of the negotiation process and the progress achieved.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and international policy.

Following the meeting, the heads of delegations of Uzbekistan and the European Union met with the press.

The ministers praised the talks, which discussed various issues in an open and constructive atmosphere.

The European side expressed full support for the large-scale reform process in Uzbekistan, which opens up new prospects for cooperation.
