Christopher Miller thanked Uzbekistan for its leadership role in promoting stability and security in Central Asia and confirmed that the United States will continue to work with Uzbekistan to address common security challenges. The Pentagon chief also welcomed the Republic's efforts to promote inter-Afghan peace talks, support the economic recovery of Afghanistan and its integration into the Central Asian region. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to further advance the peace process in Afghanistan and support the goal of a lasting political settlement.
Both sides stressed the importance of further expanding bilateral military cooperation and reaffirmed their desire to continue close cooperation on issues such as counter-terrorism, border security and building the capacity of defense institutions.
