President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held another video conference on the current pandemic situation in the capital and Tashkent region, as the situation is getting worse every single day. The President strongly criticized the top officials for their disdainful reaction to the rapid virus spreading.  ‘Many mayors and ministers could not adequately assess the tough situation and fully comprehend the real threat it poses’, Mirziyoyev said.

The President said that the authorities in charge do not know the real situation in medical institutions. They do not feel fully responsible for preventing and protecting the population from the virus. Over the past month, the Ministry of Health has significantly violated the strategy and tactics of treating coronavirus, medical practice has not changed based on the current situation. Tashkent lacks testing equipment and essential medicines. The pharmacies are practicing speculation in antiviral and antipyretic drug prices which are unreasonably high.

The indifference of the health ministry and municipalities to the current situation is also evidenced by the fact that currently 418 and 816 job vacancies in hospitals of Tashkent and Tashkent region respectively are still open. The people are desperate and do not know where to go for help. It is a real problem to call an ambulance. The number of infected in the city of Tashkent is over four thousand people and nearly 1.5 thousand cases are in the Tashkent region. These two regions account for 40 percent of cases nationwide. And the death toll in the capital has hit 45.

Health Minister Alisher Shadmanov and the city mayor of Tashkent Jakhongir Artykhodzhaev received official reprimands for the improper organization of work in preventing the spread of coronavirus, mistreating the COVID-19 patients, lack of a quick response to the disease at the grassroots level. The other men in charge also were severely rebuked.

It was particularly emphasized to triple the number the rapid response groups at polyclinics in the capital and Tashkent region and to increase the number of hospital beds in  Zangiata regional branch, by another 1000.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev urged to expand the call centers and transfer stepwise the patients from quarantine zones to home quarantine

The Tashkent city administration was instructed to replenish at least a three-month supply of necessary medicines and protective equipment.
