OSCE observer mission starts operation in Uzbekistan

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly observer mission has arrived in Uzbekistan to observe the presidential elections scheduled for October 24.

Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zainiddin Nizamkhodjayev on October 21 met with the head of the OSCE delegation Daniella de Ridder and the OSCE Special Coordinator for working with short-term observers Reinhold Lopatka.

The head of the CEC informed the guests about the latest changes in the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan, as well as the work carried out in the preparation and conduct of the presidential elections.

He said that the CEC press center and its regional offices were working on timely informing the public about the work done at all stages of the electoral process. 1,672 accredited media representatives also cover the electoral process. He added that the main task was to ensure that the presidential elections are held in accordance with generally recognized international principles and legal norms. As of today, 969 international observers have been accredited. Of these, 629 are from international organizations and 340 are from foreign countries.
