President advocates for full-scale Uzbek-Malaysian business partnership
As part of his official visit to Kuala Lumpur, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim took part in a joint business forum.
Over 200 executives and representatives of leading companies, investment firms, and financial institutions attended the event from both countries. The Malaysian business sector was represented by major companies such as Petronas, MMC Corporation, DRB-Hicom, Gemilang Coachwork, Proton, Gentari, Five Petroleum, YTL Corporation, Sunview Group, KPJ Healthcare, MK Tron, Mimos, Sparco Engineering, Tradewinds Group, Kapital DX, Gamuda, Westports, Khazanah, EXIM Bank of Malaysia, and many others.
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized that today’s high-level negotiations resulted in an agreement to launch a two-year period of innovative development in Uzbek-Malaysian partnership, as well as the identification of priority areas for practical cooperation.
During the negotiations, existing reserves were carefully analyzed, and new points of growth for multifaceted cooperation were identified. Agreements were reached on: a significant increase in trade turnover, development of a preferential trade agreement, organization of mutual exhibitions and trade fairs, formation of a solid portfolio of joint projects and implementation of an industrial cooperation program.
The head of state identified several priority areas for further development of Uzbek-Malaysian business cooperation. First, this includes the expansion of long-term cooperation in electronics and the semiconductor industry. Opportunities for projects in artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and data center creation were highlighted. The gas-chemical and chemical industries are also important sectors. Work is already underway on strategic projects for the production of polymers, green hydrogen, and ammonia. The rapid development of the construction industry is driving high demand for innovative and environmentally friendly building materials. The President of Uzbekistan invited Malaysian companies to take an active part in the creation of modern production facilities and large-scale construction projects in the country’s regions.
Prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in healthcare were also noted, particularly the construction of modern clinics and the production of innovative pharmaceutical products based on Malaysia’s advanced experience.
Attention was drawn to the significant potential in ensuring food security. In this context, interest was expressed in the implementation of joint projects for the introduction of smart agriculture technologies, production of organic products, and application of halal standards.
The head of state also invited leading Malaysian companies and banks to actively participate in the privatization of state assets in telecommunications, energy, banking, finance, and other sectors in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, the great potential for cooperation in geology, education, transport, and pilgrimage tourism was emphasized.
The President welcomed the strong interest of Malaysian entrepreneurs in implementing joint investment projects and their willingness to share technologies and expertise. In this context, the creation of a Special Economic Zone in Tashkent Region under the management of a Malaysian company was announced. In conclusion, the head of state proposed holding the next joint business forum in Uzbekistan this fall.
