President met with speakers of Arab Parliaments

On the sidelines of the 150th anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the heads of parliaments from several Arab states.

The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Yamahi; the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Bahrain, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam; the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt, Hanafy Ali El-Gebaly; the Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman, Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali; the Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar, Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim; and the Chairman of the Committee of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ali Rashid Al-Nuaimi.

The heads of delegations conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from the leaders of their respective countries to the President of Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed the further development of comprehensive relations with Arab countries, including the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation. Meeting highlighted that in recent years, Uzbekistan’s partnership with the Arab world has been dynamically expanding.

High-level historic visits have taken place, and mutual contacts and exchanges are actively maintained. Strategic partnerships have been established with the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar, while comprehensive cooperation is developing with Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Bilateral relations with Bahrain and Oman are also progressing steadily.

The joint investment portfolio with these countries has exceeded 50 billion USD. Numerous projects are underway in green energy, chemical industry, agriculture, IT, transport and logistics, infrastructure, and tourism. Around 500 joint ventures have been established, and the number of direct flights has surpassed 150 per week.

The leaders also discussed pressing regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East. The agenda of upcoming high-level events was reviewed, particularly the second “Central Asia – Gulf Cooperation Council” summit scheduled to take place in May in Samarkand.
