Proposals for energy saving reviewed

Uzbekistan is steadily increasing its energy capacity to meet the growing needs of the population and the economy. Forecasts indicate that by 2035, electricity consumption will rise 1.7 times compared to the current level. To meet this demand, the country must not only expand production but also improve energy conservation. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on ways to enhance energy efficiency.

Analysis shows that Uzbekistan uses 2.5 times more energy to generate 1 dollar of gross domestic product than the global average. Electricity networks lose 14 percent of energy, while natural gas losses exceed 7 percent. To address this, scientists are conducting a detailed study of local energy-saving opportunities. In seven regions, they identified reserves that could save 4.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

During the presentation, experts discussed proposals based on these studies. Replacing outdated pumps in the water management system with modern ones could save 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Upgrading boiler systems and integrating "green" energy into social institutions could save 5 million cubic meters of gas and 15 million kilowatt-hours of electricity this year alone. Overall, Uzbekistan aims to save 1.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity this year. To achieve this, experts will provide scientifically based recommendations to every enterprise and organization.

Large industrial enterprises will follow newly established energy consumption standards per unit of production, cutting energy costs by 5–10 percent. A targeted program will support the installation of energy-saving equipment in social sector facilities. Authorities plan to expand efforts to improve the thermal insulation of apartment buildings. Banks will offer preferential loans for installing solar collectors and solar panels. Additionally, a new program, based on Japanese expertise, will educate consumers on energy conservation.

President emphasized the need for energy conservation across all economic sectors, the social sphere, and housing. He issued specific instructions to reduce energy losses in various industries and regions while preventing energy theft and misuse.
