Uzbekistan and Malaysia launch new era of innovative partnership

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met at the Perdana Putra government complex for talks in both a narrow format and with official delegations. At the start of the meeting, President of Uzbekistan thanked Prime Minister Ibrahim for the warm hospitality and congratulated him on the achievements of Malaysia’s “Madani” state strategy.

The discussions focused on expanding and strengthening Uzbek-Malaysian relations. To ensure effective cooperation and implement high-level agreements, the two sides agreed to create a Strategic Dialogue platform for foreign ministers. To boost trade, Uzbekistan and Malaysia decided to develop a Preferential Trade Agreement, organize industrial exhibitions, and implement an Industrial Cooperation Program.

The Malaysian government actively supports Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and will assist in this process.

The leaders designated 2025-2026 as the period of innovative development in Uzbek-Malaysian relations. They identified key areas for economic cooperation, including petrochemicals, electronics, the semiconductor industry, innovative manufacturing, smart agriculture, green energy, and pilgrimage tourism.

To support joint projects, Uzbekistan will establish a special economic zone in Tashkent region, with a leading Malaysian company managing operations.

Both leaders also called for stronger cultural and humanitarian exchanges. This year, Uzbekistan and Malaysia will host Mutual Culture Weeks to promote deeper people-to-people ties. In addition, they discussed regional security and agreed to strengthen cooperation in countering terrorism, radicalism, and Islamophobia.

At the end of the meeting, both sides decided to develop a “roadmap” for the timely and effective implementation of agreements. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Prime Minister to visit Uzbekistan for an official visit, reinforcing the commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation.
