Uzbekistan grants financial support to WWII veterans
May 9 – the Day of Remembrance and Honor – is celebrated as a national holiday to honor those who died in World War II. It also recognizes veterans who continue to contribute to the country’s development and youth education. In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory, financial support will be provided to war veterans, and labor front participants from 1941-1945.
A one-time monetary reward is established as follows:
- Each World War II participant and disabled veteran will receive $10,000 (ten thousand U.S. dollars).
- Each person equated to a World War II participant will receive 25,000,000 (twenty-five million) soums.
- Each labor front participant from 1941-1945 will receive 3,000,000 (three million) soums.
The expenses for this decree will be covered by the republican budget of Uzbekistan.
The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations, and the city of Tashkent, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other relevant organizations will ensure the distribution of these monetary rewards. Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this decree.
