FAO creates forest plantations in Syrdarya region

The FAO representative office in Uzbekistan planted more than 30,000 saplings of maple, ash, poplar, mulberry, elm and jida on the territory of 20 hectares of the Syrdarya forest. Moreover, 10,000 seedlings were transferred to the local population, to create green spaces on their homesteads.

"In order to train local residents and conduct trainings on planting, care and soil preparation, the FAO office in Uzbekistan has created demonstration plots of forest plantations in the Gulistan region, protective forest strips in the Boyavut region, as well as a nursery of ornamental and forest plantings in the Shirin district of the Syrdarya region," said Olimjon Kakhkharov, technical coordinator of the FAO project.

One of these trainings was held in the city of Gulistan. FAO experts, representatives of the State Forestry Committee and teachers of the Tashkent State Agrarian University told the participants about the features of agricultural technology for creating nut, fuel and wood plantations.
