President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates press and media workers

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the press and mass media workers on their professional holiday, which is celebrated in the country on June 27. The head of state wished good health, new creative achievements, happiness and well-being to all media representatives.

Here is a brief text of the greeting:

Dear friends!

I am sincerely happy to congratulate all of you on the day of press and mass media workers-June 27 and to express my deep respect and best wishes to you.

I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to you for the fact that, despite the current difficult situation and the difficulties that have arisen due to the spread of the pandemic, you are conscientiously fulfilling your professional duty to provide the population with timely and reliable information and comprehensive coverage of the democratic reforms being carried out in our country.

Dear employees of the mass media!

As you are all aware, at the new stage of our country's development, particular attention is also being paid to fundamental reform and improvement of the information sphere.

This is evidenced by the fact that over the past three years, more than ten legislative acts have been adopted in this direction. In particular, according to the Presidential decree “On further measures to ensure the independence of the mass media and the development of the press services of state bodies and organizations”, a new system has been formed in this area.

Over the past year, in order to ensure the openness of the activities of state bodies and organizations, the press services of many ministries and departments have been organized in accordance with the requirements of the time.

To provide reliable information about the processes taking place in society, these services organize press conferences, briefings, media tours, and promptly provide comments on current issues and events, including on their websites, social networks, and mobile messengers.

The most important thing is that the national mass media, comprehensively analyzing the large-scale processes of renewal taking place in the country, draw the attention of state agencies and the public to social problems and shortcomings in the field.

Of course, today we are looking for ways to develop all areas, including information. Naturally, along with success, there are shortcomings and omissions.

When it comes to this, it should be recognized that the disclosure of strict requirements and the most important trends of our time, critical analysis, and bold presentation of topics and problems of concern to the public have not yet become dominant in the national media space. Unfortunately, the majority of mass media is dominated by the information that does not have a high social significance, in the spirit of accountability and grandiloquence.

Another important issue: the public is concerned about the low level of knowledge and professionalism, and the culture of discussion among some of our journalists and bloggers.

In this regard, the main task is to study in-depth and eliminate such shortcomings, to move from quantitative to qualitative indicators in the field of mass media, and to improve the effectiveness of their work.
