Uzbekistan-Italy discuss education, science, innovation cooperation

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Kongirotboy Sharipov, met with the delegation led by Mayor of Turin, Italy, Stefano Lo Russo. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss enhancing cooperation in education, science, and innovation.

Minister outlined the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s higher education, science, and innovation sectors, as well as existing collaborations with Italy, such as the operations of Italian university branches in Uzbekistan. He proposed new initiatives, including providing spaces for Uzbek students at Turin Polytechnic’s dormitory, setting up an incubator at its Tashkent branch, and facilitating student internships at Italian companies.

Mayor Lo Russo praised Uzbekistan’s economic progress and emphasized advancing cooperation between Turin and Tashkent, particularly the 15-year successful partnership with Turin Polytechnic University. He also proposed developing an “Italy-Uzbekistan Advanced Engineering Center” in Tashkent.

Italy expressed interest in expanding cooperation in training professionals, entrepreneurship, innovation, and joint projects in energy, environment, biotechnology, and AI. Ambassador Papadiya de Bottini reaffirmed Italy’s support for the growth of education, science, and innovation collaboration.
