Uzbekistan to host World Boxing Championship in 2023

At the closing ceremony of the World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, the AIBA flag was accepted by Saken Polatov, Vice-Chairman of the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation as the organizer of the next world championship. In this regard, the 22nd World Boxing Championships among men will be held in Tashkent in 2023.

From October 25 to November 6, Uzbek fighters worthily defended the honor of Uzbekistan. In the semifinal of the championship, Madiyar Saidrakhimov in the weight category up to 92 kg fought in the ring with Julio Cesar la Cruz, four-time world champion and two-time winner of the Olympic Games. The fight ended with a score of 5-0 in favor of the athlete from Cuba, and Madiar won a bronze medal. Sportsman Abdumalik Halakov competed in the 60 kg weight category and won the silver medal, losing to an experienced athlete from France Sophiane Oumih. The silver medallist received a $50,000 prize.

Officials from the Uzbek Boxing Federation, the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Defence, relatives, and fans came to congratulate the medalists as they have returned from Belgrade.
