Syria's President Bashar al-Assad said he plans to visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to meet with its top leader Kim Jong Un, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Sunday.
Assad made the remarks when receiving credentials from the DPRK ambassador to Syria on May 30 in Damascus, according to KCNA.
There has been no comment on the matter from the Syrian president's office.
Pyongyang and Damascus maintain close ties, which date back to the 1970s.
