The World List of Craft Cities was founded in 2014. Today it includes more than 36 cities of the world. Kokand became first World Craft City in Central Asia.
On September 13, as part of the International Festival of Folk Arts and Crafts, the head of the World Council of Crafts for the Asia-Pacific Region, Ms. Gada Kaddumi, granted the certificate to The Mayor of Kokand Maruf Usmanov on the appointment of Kokand as World Craft City. Kokand being recognized for its excellence in woodcarving.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov, Chairman of “Hunarmand” Association Ulugbek Abdullaev as well as the representatives of ministries and departments, national and foreign media.
In her welcoming speech, Ms. Gada Kaddumi expressed gratitude to all the departments supporting the applied art in Uzbekistan:
“This is the evidence of great love for the native land and the meaning a true patriotism - to present culture and art to the world community. Support of the Uzbek government is clear evidence of respect the true goals and objectives of World Council of Crafts in the Asia-Pacific Region” said Ms. Kaddumi.
