Mirziyoyev orders to improve fuel and energy sector

The use and cost of energy affect each of us every day of our lives. Many issues arise from the use of energy: greenhouse gas emissions, acid rain, climate change, dependency on depleting supplies of fossil fuels — especially from politically unstable regions of the world. As the world is gradually shifting to green energy, some measures can also be observed in Uzbekistan. The regular meeting of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was exactly on this issue.

To create a gross domestic product worth a thousand dollars, Uzbekistan uses twice more energy than in developed countries. 44 percent of the annual demand for petroleum products is covered by imports. The meeting discussed the ways of reducing energy costs by 2-2.5 times in the coming years.

By the end of this year, 3 propane-butane mix plants and a plant for the production of synthetic fuel will be put into operation. As a result, imports of jet fuel, diesel fuel and liquefied natural gas will be completely replaced.

40 percent of the electricity produced in Uzbekistan is used for heating and lighting. Overspending in the process is another problem. For example, an average of 400-kilowatt hours of electricity is used to heat 1 square meter of space, while in developed countries this figure stays at 170-kilowatt hours.

Mirziyoyev instructed to study the energy efficiency of 285 large industrial enterprises with the involvement of international energy audit organizations, as well as to reduce electricity tariffs for entrepreneurs who organize work in three shifts by 1.5 times during the night shift.

According to Mirziyoyev, if some 150 thousand households will use solar panels and water heating systems, it could save up to 319 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
