Turkish Aksa Enerji to build $300mn power plant in Uzbekistan

Turkish Aksa Enerji is intending to build two 470 MW and $300mn worth of power plants in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, the Energy Ministry of Uzbekistan said in a statement. The stations are expected to generate 3.9bn kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

The power plants are set to be built on 7 hectares of land in the Kibray region, on the west of the operating Tashkent TPP.

New plants, according to the Energy Ministry, would save up to 550mn cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The construction has already begun, some 900 new jobs are to be created upon its completion in the fourth quarter of this year.

Uzbekistan aims to increase the share of renewables to 25% of the energy mix by 2030. In the coming ten years, the government plans to commission 5,000 MW of new solar capacity and 3,000 MW in wind power plants.
