Uzbekistan Exceeds Grain Harvest Targets
Uzbekistan's Agriculture Ministry has announced the results of the grain harvest in the country. Surkhandarya, Khorezm, and Syrdarya have exceeded their grain harvest plans, with Surkhandarya leading the way at 237,900 tonnes. Other regions like Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Ferghana, Tashkent region, and Jizzakh are nearing completion of their harvests. However, Karakalpakstan and Navoi are far behind the plan.
The country aims to harvest 2,565,000 tons of grain in 2023, with 2,046,816 tons already harvested, including 1,159,100 tons of commercial grain. Uzbekistan plans to distribute 78,389 tons of grain and 6.27 million bales of baled hay free of charge to 313,500 needy households. Surkhandarya has exceeded its distribution targets, providing over 105.7% of the planned grain distribution and 104.8% of the hay distribution.
Uzbekistan's favorable climatic and soil conditions allow for multiple harvests each year, contributing to increased soil fertility. This year, 1,026,504 hectares of land were sown for grains, with 55% of the crops already harvested by June 21. Additionally, 47% of the land has been cleared of hay. The country plans to reseed 904,909 hectares of land, and preparations for replanting have reached 34% completion.
Although the overall crop area has slightly decreased compared to last year, the land allocated for reseeding has significantly expanded from 820,790 hectares to 904,909 hectares this year. The Agriculture Ministry remains optimistic about the progress made in the harvest and distribution efforts, ensuring food security and support for those in need in Uzbekistan.
