President proposes to organize Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality

The twentieth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent on June 21.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the session.

– Today's plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis is taking place at a new stage of development of our country, at a crucial moment when large-scale and intensive democratic reforms are being implemented in all spheres of society, – said the head of state.

Due to the dedicated work of our people, the priority goals of the Action Strategy are being progressively implemented, with special attention paid to the development of the national economy and the social sphere.

The President stressed the need to increase the role and authority of the Senate in the implementation of tasks related to the further improvement of the level and quality of life of the people, the international authority of Uzbekistan.

Attention is paid to the issues of increasing the activity of senators in the development of laws taking into account national and regional interests, the implementation of effective parliamentary control over the activities of executive authorities, the establishment of practical cooperation with local Kengashes of people's deputies, strengthening the activities of the Senate in the international direction.

– Speaking of the Senate, we first of all mean a great force, which in practice embodies the political, legal and cultural level of the national, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In his address, the head of state focused on the issues of creating decent working and living conditions for women, improving their social protection, socio-economic and political and legal activity.

– We need to recognise that women deeper than others feel the worries of the people. If the the upcoming elections in December this year in the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes will see more hardworking and educated women, both the state and society will only benefit from this, - said the President.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to organize a new Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality.

Nigmatilla Yuldoshev, who held the post of Chairman of the Senate since 2015, left this post ahead of schedule in connection with the appointment of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In accordance with article 86 of the Constitution, the head of our state proposed Tanzila Narbaeva, who served as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan, as Chairman of the Senate.

Members of the Upper House of Parliament expressed their views on the candidate. The speakers noted that Tanzila narbayeva with her deep knowledge and extensive experience, patriotism, authority in society and human qualities is a worthy candidate for this position and is able to ensure the implementation of the interests of the state and the people's requests.

The senators later elected Tanzila Narbaeva for the position of Chairperson of the Senate.
