Tashkent declaration adopted

The 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was held in Tashkent from April 5 to 9. The event brought together representatives from around 190 national parliaments worldwide. Nearly 2,000 leading politicians, parliament speakers, and heads of international organizations from 140 countries took part. In addition, over 50 international and observer organizations attended the assembly. Many bilateral and multilateral meetings were held during the event. Participants exchanged views on key topics such as gender equality, ecology, education, technology, and international conflicts. Several panel sessions were also organized. On the final day, the Tashkent Declaration was officially adopted.

At the event in Tashkent, women made up more than 37 percent of the members of parliament who participated in the Assembly — the highest number since 2022. Around 70 different events took place as part of the Assembly.  At the final plenary session on April 9, the President of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, thanked all the participants.  The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Secretary General also spoke at the session. They praised Uzbekistan for the high level of organization of the anniversary assembly, which brought together representatives from the world's parliaments for the 150th time.

The highest body of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the Assembly, which meets twice a year in the capital of one of its member states. The Assembly represents the Union's stance on political issues and adopts resolutions to recommend solutions to international problems. The anniversary Assembly held in Tashkent focused on the theme “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice.” The Tashkent Declaration, adopted at the end of the event, highlighted the importance of renewing efforts toward social development and finding joint solutions to current and future challenges. The document also included the initiatives proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech at the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Assembly adopted two important resolutions. The first focused on “The role of parliaments in promoting a two-state solution in Palestine,” and the second addressed “Parliamentary strategies to reduce the impact of armed conflict on sustainable development.” The high-level event, which lasted nearly a week, highlighted Uzbekistan’s leadership in global parliamentary affairs. The Tashkent Declaration now serves as a roadmap for promoting social progress and justice around the world.
