Uzbek President instructs to accelerate the construction of a casting and rolling complex in Bekabad

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to accelerate the construction of a casting and rolling complex in Bekabad. “Today our economy needs 4 million tons of ferrous metal, 50% of this volume is provided by imports. The sooner we launch the enterprise, the more benefit our economy will receive,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Today, on August 12, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the city of Bekabad to get acquainted with the living conditions of the population and the work of industrial facilities.As is known, the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant (“Uzmetkombinat”) occupies an important place in the socio-economic development of the city, which includes dozens of enterprises and social institutions. The plant employs 11 thousand people, in this regard, special attention is paid to the expansion of its activities.
So, in recent years, the plant has implemented a number of investment projects, put into operation new and modernized existing workshops.
Among them is a complex of long products. As part of a project worth almost $5 million, a thermal hardening line was installed here and launched in February this year. As a result, the possibility of producing 500 thousand tons of A500-A800 rebar per year has been created.
During his visit to the plant, the head of state inspected this complex, inquired about the technical and economic indicators of the project.
“At one time, it was enough for the plant to process 800-900 thousand tons of secondary ferrous metal. But today our economy needs 4 million tons of ferrous metal, 50% of this volume is provided by imports. That is why, the sooner we launch the enterprise, the more benefit our economy will receive,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It was noted that the cost of rebar production decreased due to savings in chemical components due to the introduction of heat hardening technology. An annual import substitution of $300 million is estimated to be achieved.It is also important that the fittings are certified according to the international DIN standard. These products are planned to be exported to Europe.
The President got acquainted with another important project - the construction of a casting and rolling complex.

The €672 million project will enable the production of 1 million steel sheets per year. As a result, the plant's capacity will increase by 2 times.To date, work has been completed on laying the railway and highways to the complex, and reinforced concrete structures are being installed. The necessary equipment will be installed by the Italian company Danieli. The complex is planned to be commissioned in 2024.
The head of state pointed to the need to accelerate the implementation of the project and ensure guaranteed access to raw materials. Then the President spoke with the heads of the companies participating in the project, Renaissance Heavy Industries (Turkey) and Danieli (Italy).
